Our mission is to empower United Student Fellowship members by providing targeted, need-based support for essential living expenses, such as housing, utilities, medical care, and other necessary costs to maintain a stable home. Guided by the compassionate principle of Galatians 6:10, we commit to doing good to all, cultivating a community of continuous care and meaningful connection. Every decision to give is made with careful consideration of individual financial need, ensuring that our shared resources uplift those most affected by hardship while reinforcing a network where every member is heard, valued, and supported.
The Backstory
During the summer of 2025, Pastor Reverend Shelton Murphy shared an urgent plea for help during a Zoom call. He asked if former members of the United Student Fellowship (USF) could come together to discuss creating the USF Benevolent Ministry, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated solely to providing benevolence to USF alumni in need.
During the months leading up to the Zoom call, Pastor Murphy had faithfully walked alongside former USF members experiencing severe financial hardship. Many of you may recall his heartfelt request in our private Facebook group, urging us to contribute toward meeting this pressing need.
In response to Pastor Murphy’s June 2025 appeal, Dr. Claude Hargrove and Dr. Sheila McCree Mitchell were entrusted with initiating the planning process for the formation of this new extension of the ministry we all hold dear.
Why join the USF Benevolence Foundation board?
As alumni of USF, we are called to live out our faith by honoring God with our lives, our gifts, and our service. Scripture reminds us that we were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19–20), that our service is an act of worship (Romans 12:1), and that we are commanded to love God fully and love our neighbors as ourselves (John 22:37–39). Having received much from God, much is also required of us (Luke 12:48). The USF Benevolence Foundation provides a way to live out these values by supporting fellow alumni in times of need with genuine love and care (1 John 3:17; Romans 12:9–10).
To fulfill this mission responsibly, the Foundation operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, guided by board members who ensure accountability, transparency, and stewardship. Their leadership safeguards trust, aligns with the mission, and strengthens the Foundation’s ability to make a lasting impact for alumni in need.
